The enclosed file is for use with a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver. Low-cost, handheld, dashboard-mountable GPS receivers are readily available today. The only drawback to using them effectively on a regular basis is the need to figure out the latitude and longitude of where you want to go. James Associates hopes to provide a solution, at least for popular destinations. We are releasing Waypoint Files as low-cost shareware. These files list nearly 250 important locations in a given area. The files are tab-delimited text files readable by any Spreadsheet or Word Processor. With any GPS receiver, you can read latitude and longitude from a printed copy, and enter them manually into your receiver. If you have a GARMIN GPS40 or GPS 45 receiver and a Macintosh, then you can use the MacGPS software to load the Waypoint File into your receiver. Even if you have the software, print a copy to stick in your pocket, because 6 letter waypoint names, while easily recognizable to someone familiar with them, cannot possibly describe everything to someone who does not know Boulder. The Comment Field on the printed list will help you quickly select the correct waypoint.
The Boulder County, Colorado Waypoint File enclosed should be quite useful to anyone living in or visiting the Boulder area. When your daughter tells you her soccer game is in 15 minutes at Foothills Elementary, your GPS with this file loaded will guide you right there. Looking for a nice hike? All of the trailheads are indicated by a "T" at the end of the Comment Field, and the destination waypoints will tell you how far you have to go. Lost on the University of Colorado campus? Not any more! Restaurants are indicated by an "R" at the end of the Comment Field. We personally recommend all of them, increasing your likelyhood of enjoying your meal as well as finding the restaurant easily. There are airports, bus stations, churches, hospitals, libraries, major companies, and more. Obviously not every place in Boulder will fit into 250 waypoints, but these are the ones many people will want to go to, selected by a long term resident who knows Boulder well. This is the level of quality we bring you in our Waypoint Files.
While we have tried to be accurate, S/A and other factors prevent us from guaranteeing the accuracy of any waypoint data included here. We cannot be held liable for any losses you might incur by relying on this information. If it is critical, check it with a good map or other source.
This Waypoint File is Copyrighted shareware, it is not free. You may give it to your friends, post it to BBS's, put it on your ftp site, etc., as long as you include this README file with it. But if you use it in conjunction with a GPS receiver, you owe James Associates $2.50. James Associates shareware Waypoint Files for other locations may be ordered using the form below:
